The purpose of this blog post is to provide the guidance and the steps needed to create a new VMware Datacenter.
Log into your vSphere web client, right-click your vCenter Server name and then select New Datacenter. When prompted to do so, please provide a name for the new Datacenter. For this guide, I called it Datacenter2 and then select OK.
Now that the new datacenter (Datacenter2) has been created, the next step is to create new Host. To do so, please right click Datacenter2 and then select Add Host. When prompted to do so at the Add Host pop-up window, please provide the appropriate information as you proceed through each step. This includes the host name or IP address, username including the password.
Once the username and password have been verified, a Host Summary will be provided. This will include the Host Name or IP address (whichever was provided in step 1), Vendor, Model, the ESXi version number, and the virtual machines currently found on this host. Once this information has been confirmed, you will be required to provide a license.
For Lockdown Mode, please select the default (Disabled) and click Next to proceed. For the VM Location, please select Next to proceed. Once you have reviewed the information provided at the Ready to Complete window, please select Finish to complete the setup.
If I have missed anything or if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
